Commanders Stun Top-Seeded Lions 45-31: Daniels Leads Historic Playoff Upset
Rookie sensation Jayden Daniels orchestrated a stunning playoff upset Saturday night, leading the sixth-seeded Washington Commanders to a dominant 45-31 victory over the top-seeded Detroit Lions, shattering Motor City's Super Bowl dreams.
The Commanders, written off as underdogs, rode Daniels' brilliant performance of 299 passing yards and two touchdowns to reach their first NFC Championship game in 33 years. Fellow rookie Mike Sainristil played hero with two crucial interceptions, including a momentum-shifting pick on a Lions' trick play attempt.

Detroit's fairy-tale season, marked by a franchise-record 15 wins, crumbled under the weight of five turnovers. Quarterback Jared Goff's nightmare performance included three interceptions and a costly fumble, while the Lions' usually reliable defense had no answer for Washington's explosive offense.
"It's a surreal moment," said Daniels, who joined Ravens legend Joe Flacco as only the second rookie quarterback to defeat a top-seeded team in playoff history. The former LSU star showcased his dual-threat abilities, adding 51 rushing yards to his impressive passing display.
Washington's offensive fireworks included a spectacular 58-yard touchdown from Terry McLaurin and two rushing scores from Brian Robinson. The teams combined for an NFL playoff record 42 points in an explosive second quarter, with the Commanders emerging with a 31-21 halftime lead they would never relinquish.
The victory sends Washington to the NFC Championship game, where they'll continue their improbable quest for their first Super Bowl appearance since 1991. For Detroit, despite strong performances from Jahmyr Gibbs (105 rushing yards, 2 TDs) and Amon-Ra St. Brown (137 receiving yards), their historic season ends in heartbreak.
"We're here to get to the show and we fell short," said Lions coach Dan Campbell, reflecting on his team's shocking exit. "That hurts."
