Duke basketball fans received encouraging news as head coach Jon Scheyer confirmed that ACC Player of the Year Cooper Flagg is expected to return from his ankle injury for the team's NCAA Tournament opener on Friday.
"It's full steam ahead," Scheyer said on ESPN's College GameNight following Selection Sunday. "Our goal is for Friday, no question about it. I know that's his goal as well."
Flagg, who missed Duke's final two ACC Tournament games after spraining his ankle against Georgia Tech, will begin on-court work this week with the plan to progress to practice before Friday's game.

The NCAA selection committee factored Flagg's expected availability into their decision to award Duke the No. 1 seed in the East Region. NCAA Senior Vice President of Basketball Dan Gavitt confirmed, "We understand through communication with Duke and the ACC that Cooper Flagg will be available for the NCAA tournament."
The Blue Devils will face the winner of the First Four matchup between American and Mount St. Mary's in their opening round game.
Flagg has been exceptional in his freshman season, averaging 18.9 points, 7.5 rebounds, and 4.1 assists per game while earning both ACC Player of the Year and Rookie of the Year honors. His return significantly boosts Duke's chances as they pursue their sixth national championship.
